Working with children, parents and families

As well as working with adults experiencing a range of challenges, I work therapeutically with parents/caregivers and children in person and online for using a Solution-Focused approach.  I also use elements of Narrative Therapy with my work with children; this is a close “cousin” of Solution Focused therapy.

What work do you do with children and teenagers?

I work with children and young people who are experiencing a range of different challenges, from anxiety and low mood, to difficulties adjusting to life abroad and behavioural challenges.  I also work with children and young people with physical health conditions who may be, for example, managing the impact of taking medication or limitations on their life due to their health.

The first session with the child or young person takes place in person; other subsequent sessions can be online if that is preferred.

What work do you do with parents/care-givers?

When I work with children and teenagers, I always recommend a first session with at least one parent.  This session allows us to explore your best hopes from therapy for your family and aims to map out what you’d like to see happening.  It’s also a chance to experience the kind of questions I’ll be using in Solution Focused work with your child or teenager.  This session can be online or in person. I also work directly with parents only, depending on the age of the child, and the preferences in the family.

What work do you do with new parents?

Becoming a new parent is a huge life change. This is a time when the right extra support can make all the difference. Many mums experience postnatal depression and anxiety, made even harder if they don’t have their support network around them. I work with mums and dads who want someone on their side who can help them find the parent they want to be. I also facilitate a free weekly maternal wellbeing peer support group for members of Message Paris. I run workshops for parents, with Message Paris and at other locations.  For more information click here.

What work do you with those trying to become parents?

Trying to become a parent, whether through fertility treatment, surrogacy or adoption is a time of great uncertainty, and can be extremely painful, as people deal with disappointment, exhaustion and even loss. I aim to provide a space to work out how to navigate these tough times, in a way that fits for the person and leaves them feeling empowered and hopeful.
